Yugo Shobugawa

Graduated from the School of Medicine, Niigata University, in 2002. Following residency training in internal medicine at Niigata City General Hospital, completed the doctoral program at the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Niigata University (Ph.D. in Medicine). Appointed Assistant Professor in the Division of International Health in 2011 and Associate Professor in 2014. From 2019, served as Professor in the Department of Active Ageing (donated by Tokamachi City) at the same graduate school, contributing to the design of integrated health and long-term care systems in Tokamachi City. Concurrently appointed Medical Technical Director for Tokamachi City in 2021. Assumed the current position in October 2025.
Established a rural cohort of older adults to elucidate determinants of ikigai and well-being, with ongoing cohort studies in Myanmar and Malaysia. Research interests include the implementation and scale-up of social prescribing and studies of healthcare in rural and remote areas.
