Completed the Doctoral Program at the Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies, Kyoto University in 2006 (Ph.D. in Human and Environmental Studies). Served as Associate Professor and later Professor at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Hirosaki University, and has been Professor at the Institute of Future Science, Institute of Science Tokyo since October 2025.
Focuses on the interaction between users and technology in nascent technologies. Recently advancing an interdisciplinary research project analyzing the social impacts of cultured meat/cell agriculture technologies.
Major publications include: Emerging Science and Technology (Kyoto University Press, 2009); The Disconnected Society (Nakanishiya Shuppan, 2014); Science and Technology Studies (STS): Navigating the Technoscience Era (Shinyosha, 2021); and What is Cultured Meat? (Iwanami Shoten, 2022).
