Professor Javier Martín-Torres is a NASA Award-winning theoretical physicist and one of the world’s most highly cited planetary researchers. He has previoulsy served as Personal Chair in Planetary Science at the University of Aberdeen, and as Chaired Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden. His international career includes positions at the University of Oxford, European Space Agency (Postdoctoral Fellow, Germany), NASA Langley Research Center, Jet Propulsion Laboratory/Caltech, Lunar and Planetary Institute (University of Arizona), and the Spanish Research Council.
He is Principal Investigator of the HABIT instrument (HabitAbility, Brine, Irradiation and Temperature) former instrument of ESA/IKI’s ExoMars mission, designed to harvest water from the Martian atmosphere, and Co-Investigator of NASA’s Curiosity rover REMS instrument and ESA’s Trace Gas Orbiter.
He also led the development of the ATMO-Vent ventilator for COVID-19 response and PACKMAN atmospheric monitoring instruments.
