Completed his doctoral program at the Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo in 1998. Joined the ElectroTechnical Laboratory, Agency of Industrial Science and Technology, Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 1998. Became a researcher at the Digital Human Research Laboratory, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in 2001. After serving as a Principal Researcher at the Artificial Intelligence Research Center of AIST in 2015, he became a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the School of Engineering, Institute of Science Tokyo, in 2019. His research has focused on lifestyle informatics, injury prevention, and assistive technologies for caregivers and the elderly.
